Android TV Vs. Smart TV – Which Is Better?

Android-TV-Vs-Smart-TV

This is an era of technology. Even your entertainment has been taken over by technology be it mobile phones, computers or television sets. And just like mobiles and computers the world of televisions has seen a revolutionary change. Your simple television box now comes packed with different features and types. It has stepped up to becoming smart televisions and android televisions. This article will enumerate Android TV vs. smart TV – which is a better debate for you.

Android TV and Smart TV Clarified

The basic function of a television set is to enable channel and video viewing for the consumer traditionally through the satellite and cable. Over time the humble television has evolved into multiple types. The most common being:

  • Android TV: It is defined as a smart TV concept that was designed by Google over the Android operating system and as such is a very powerful system. It was primarily developed as a replacement for Google TV.
  • Smart TV: This is a traditional TV box but with an integrated internet facility and features an interactive web 2.0 capabilities. To put it simply smart TV is a technological merging of computers, set-top boxes, and television sets.

Android TV vs. Smart TV – Pros & Cons

Both Android and Smart TV allow for streaming and viewing videos. However apart from that basic feature they have a lot more to offer. Some of the factors which define their differences as well are:

Android TV: The features of Android TV are listed below:

  • Live to stream
  • Internet streaming
  • App download from Google play store
  • Gaming
  • Stream offline videos from your external device
  • Cast videos
  • Google assistant

Smart TV: Smart TV has a lot of fewer features. These are enumerated as:

  • Live to stream
  • Internet streaming
  • User-generated content
  • Provides information about the shows and movies you watch
  • Allows you to set reminders and make notes
  • Built-in Apps

The differences lie in the flexibility, technicality, and budget. Android TV provides all the features of a smart TV and then adds on to those features. You have complete flexibility in choosing which apps to have on android TV, unlike smart TV which comes preloaded with apps taking the choice out of your hands. Also, in smart TV, there is only a limited number of apps that you can download but no such restriction is present with Android TV. Further android TV brings with it Google assistant and video casting. Two very strong features for the tech-savvy. It also appeals to the gamer within you by effectively making your TV screen your gaming console. These features are sadly lacking in a smart TV. However, the flip side of coming packed with so many diverse features is that it makes android TV a little too technical and powerful for comfort.

The Defining Factor

Televisions are a very personal choice. What works for you may not work for your friend. When choosing whether to go for android or smart TV, first assess your wants and then evaluate their features. Decide on whether you want features beyond a smart TV like choosing which apps to have, videocasting, gaming functions or you just want a traditional viewing experience with the freedom to pick and choose videos and shows from cable to internet and offline.

Bottom Line

A common person will start to feel daunted with the prospect of so many features and functionality as offered by an Android TV. Sometimes you just want simplicity. In that smart TV wins hands down. It provides you complete experience without bogging you down with needless technology. But at the same time android provides you more features and better value for money making it the better option.
